BuildListCalc

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 11, 2026

This policy explains what BuildListCalc collects when you use this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers this site only — not the retailers, contractors, or other websites we link to, each of which has its own policies.

1. Information we collect

  • Project inputs you enter into a calculator or project calculator, such as dimensions, material selections, and the ZIP code or region used for pricing.
  • Contact details you provide voluntarily: your email address when you sign in or save a project; your email, phone number, and ZIP code when you submit a contractor quote request; and your email address if you choose to include one when you send us site feedback.
  • Usage and performance data recorded at the event level and linked to a pseudonymous browser-session identifier: the calculators and pages used, actions such as viewing a bill of materials or exporting a PDF, page-performance measurements, and state-level location derived from the ZIP or region you supply.
  • A copy of what you submit through a form, including your quote request and the consent you gave, stored alongside the corresponding usage record.
  • Site feedback you choose to send us: the category you select, the message you write, an optional email address, the address of the page you opened the feedback form from, the language you were using, and the time you sent it. On calculator and project pages we also keep that page's inputs from its web address — filtered to remove anything that looks like a token, key, or email — so we can reproduce what you saw; on other pages we keep only the page address. Feedback is stored in its own record, separate from quote requests and usage records. Sign-in, account, admin, and workspace page addresses are never saved as the source page. Please leave sensitive personal details out of the message.
  • Technical data your browser sends automatically, such as IP address, browser type, and referring page, recorded in standard server logs.

We do not collect Social Security numbers, payment card numbers, or financial account details. There is no checkout on this site.

If saving something you submitted fails — for example during a database problem — the details of that submission, including a feedback message or email address, may appear in our internal error logs so we can diagnose the failure. Those logs are kept on our servers, are not published, and are cleared on the same schedule as our other server logs.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a first-party session cookie that is required for the site to function and, if you sign in, a "remember me" cookie so that you stay signed in. Your browser also stores a pseudonymous session identifier used to group event-level usage records, and small interface preferences such as whether you have seen a one-time tip.

These records are pseudonymous rather than anonymous: they are not labeled with your name, but they can be linked to a single browsing session and, if you submit a form, to the details you provided. We do not currently run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not use these records for cross-site advertising. You can block or clear cookies and browser storage at any time; the calculators will still work, but saved sign-in status and preferences will be lost.

3. How we use information

  • To produce the estimates, bills of materials, schematics, and PDF exports that you request.
  • To save your projects and let you return to them when you sign in.
  • To share your details with contractor and lead partners when — and only when — you submit the quote request form and give consent on that form.
  • To improve estimator accuracy, pricing coverage, and site performance.
  • To investigate what you report through the feedback form — a price that looks wrong, a material pairing that would not work on site, a drawing that does not match your inputs, or a suggestion — and to correct the estimators and the site.
  • To respond to your messages and support requests.
  • To detect abuse, protect site security, and comply with legal obligations.

4. How we share information

  • Contractor and lead partners: when you submit the quote form and check the consent box, we will share the project type, ZIP or state, email address, and phone number you provided with the contractor or lead partners we work with in your area. Partners may contact you about your project by phone or email, and their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies. We do not forward a quote request to any partner unless you submitted the form and gave that consent.
  • Service providers: hosting, email delivery, and similar vendors that process data on our behalf under contract and only for that purpose.
  • Legal and safety: when required by law, regulation, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
  • Business transfer: if the site or its assets are acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Site feedback is not forwarded to contractor or lead partners. It is used only to investigate and fix what you reported, and to reply to you if you left an email address.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not disclose it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If either practice ever changes, we will give notice and provide any opt-out mechanism required by applicable law before the change takes effect.

5. Outbound and affiliate links

Some links to retailers and product pages may be affiliate links, described in our Affiliate Disclosure. When you follow any outbound link you leave this site, and the destination collects information under its own privacy policy. Where an affiliate program is active, we may receive limited referral information, such as the fact that a purchase occurred, its order value, or the resulting commission. We do not receive your payment-card number or your account credentials with the retailer.

6. Data retention

Quote request records, including the record of the consent you gave, are kept for as long as needed to service the request and to meet recordkeeping obligations. Saved projects are kept while your account is active. Event-level usage and performance records are kept while they remain useful for product analysis and are then deleted or aggregated. Site feedback records, including any email address you included, are kept while we work through what you reported and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can confirm the fix held. You can ask us to delete your data — including a feedback record — at any time using the contact details below.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including hashed sign-in tokens and HTTP-only cookies, to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Request access to, or a copy of, the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information, or deletion of your information.
  • Request a portable copy of the information you provided to us.
  • Withdraw a contractor quote request so that your details are not forwarded again.
  • Ask us to delete a piece of site feedback you sent, including the email address you attached to it.
  • Ask any partner or contractor directly to stop contacting you.
  • Clear cookies and browser storage, or use the site without signing in.

Depending on where you live — including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws — you may have additional rights, such as the right to know the categories of personal information we collect, the sources it comes from, the purposes we use it for, and the categories of third parties it is disclosed to; to request correction or deletion; to obtain a portable copy; to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects; and not to be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right. The exact rights available depend on the law of your state.

California residents: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Personal information is disclosed to contractor partners only at your direction, when you submit the quote form.

To exercise a right, email [email protected] with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We verify a request by matching the information you give us against information already associated with your account, saved project, quote request, or site feedback, and we ask only for what is reasonably necessary to verify it. If the only record we hold for you is site feedback you sent without an email address, we may not be able to identify it; tell us roughly when you sent it and what it was about so we can try. For California requests we confirm receipt within 10 business days and generally respond within 45 calendar days; where the law allows, we may extend that period once and will explain why.

An authorized agent may submit a request with signed permission or a valid power of attorney, and we may ask the agent for proof of authority or ask you to verify your identity directly. If the law of your state gives you a right to appeal a decision on your request, email us with "Privacy appeal" in the subject line and describe the decision you are appealing.

9. Children

This site is intended for adults planning construction and remodeling work. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Account, saved-project, and contractor-quote features are intended only for users who are at least 18, or the age of majority where they live. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Do Not Track

Because there is no consistent industry standard for Do Not Track browser signals, this site does not respond to them. We do not operate cross-site advertising trackers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. If a change materially affects how we use or disclose personal information we have already collected, we will give additional notice and, where the law requires it, obtain your consent before the change takes effect.

12. Contact

Privacy questions and requests: [email protected].
